  • This walk starts on the east side of the Windermere Hotel, opposite The Terrace. You can park here for free for 2 hours.

    Step 1: This walk starts on the east side of the Windermere Hotel, opposite The Terrace. You can park here for free for 2 hours.

  • Step 2: You can start the walk from Windermere Rail Station too. Head out of the Station Precinct, turn right and then cross the A591 / Kendal Road at the traffic junction. Turn right on the other side, passing the hotel.

  • Step 3: You can get to the summit of Orrest Head by taking the step-free Miles without Stiles route. Steps 37-58 show this route coming downhill. You can do this with an off road buggy or a mobility scooter that can cope with slopes.

  • After the parking area ends, turn left and head through the wooden gate onto the grass and gravel footpath.
