Step 1: If starting in Symonds Yat West, you'll need to get across the Wye on the hand-pulled ferry. Call the Saracen's Head to see if it's running.
Step 2: In June 2024 the price for a ferry crossing was £2 per adult and £1 per child.
Step 3: From the Symonds Yat East side, facing the Saracen's Head Inn, turn right along the road. There is no path so look and listen for vehicles.
Step 4: At the junction near the Royal Lodge take a left to find the footpath between hedges alongside the lodge.
Step 5: The narrow earth path starts to incline gently for this first section.
Step 6: Looking left you'll start to get a view across the valley and the steep-sided gorge created through millions of years of river erosion.
