Step 1: Fine views over the Thames through a landscape with marshes, bridges and pylons. The five miles are mainly flat with no stiles. Little road walking. Most of the paths are tarred. There some Loop waymarks and other signs help.
Step 2: Turn right out of Rainham station and then right again over the level crossing. Then take the ramps and steps up to the bridge ahead.
Step 3: Cross the bridge over the High Speed railway, then take the long ramp ahead.
Step 4: Keep ahead on the surfaced path following signs to RSPB, Purfleet and Concrete barges. Ferry Lane is the parallel road to the right.
Step 5: Carry on along the path with the occasional Loop waymark plus signs to show that this is a cycle track.
Step 6: At the end of the path go through a squeeze stile and across a footbridge to emerge on a slip road near a roundabout.
