Walk preview

1. 

   Step 1: Welcome to the Thames Path! This walk follows the South Bank of the iconic Thames Path National Trail from the Crossness Incinerator to Erith.

2. Step 2: The nearest stations to the start of this walk are Abbey Wood and Belvedere. Local buses also stop outside the train stations, if you’re getting public transport to the start of this walk.

3. 

   Step 3: Begin first by following the paved path with the river on your left. You’ll pass the gorgeous Crossness Nature Reserve on your right.

4. 

   Step 4: Go through the gate here and continue straight ahead.

5. Step 5: On the opposite bank, beyond the reedy fringes of the river, there’s hi-tech activity at Ford Motor Works. Car production ended in 2002 but engine manufacture continues.

6. Step 6: This was where the Ford Sewing machinists’ strike of 1968 took place, as depicted in the film, “Made in Dagenham.”
