• Step 1: A fine start to the London Loop: an 8.5 mile walk along the rivers Thames, Darent and Cray with some contrasting industrial areas. Varied walking along largely level paths. Waymarking is generally good.

• 

  Step 2: Turn right out of Erith Station and follow the access road under the bridge then on round to the left.

• 

  Step 3: Go right into Stonewood Road at the brick roundabout. Walk down the road.

• 

  Step 4: Join Walnut Tree Road briefly and then cross the High Street at the pedestrian crossing.

• 

  Step 5: When reopened, walk across the Riverside Gardens to the riverside. Turn right to walk down river.

• 

  Step 6: Enjoy wide vistas over the Thames as you walk through the gardens with the river on your left.
