• Step 1: A fine start to the London Loop: an 8.5 mile walk along the rivers Thames, Darent and Cray contrasting with some industrial areas. Varied walking along largely level paths. Waymarking is generally good.

• 

  Step 2: Turn right out of Erith Station and follow the access road under the bridge then on round to the left.

• 

  Step 3: Go right into Stonewood Road at the mini roundabout. Walk down the road.

• 

  Step 4: Join Walnut Tree Road briefly and then walk into the Riverside Gardens from the crossing.

• 

  Step 5: Just to the left is a sign post showing that the Loop follows the Thames Path through the gardens.

• 

  Step 6: Walk through the gardens - stepping up left on the way to a brick viewpoint to enjoy wide vistas over the Thames.
