• Step 1: An easy 4.5 mile walk on tarmac or gravel paths. A good walk to do after wet weather - with an easy diversion round the one part liable to flooding. Waymarking is generally helpful.

• 

  Step 2: Turn right out of Upminster Bridge Station and walk under the railway bridge along Upminster Road.

• 

  Step 3: You can spot the top of the Upminster windmill after passing under the bridge. Check the mill’s web site for details of opening times.

• 

  Step 4: After crossing the River Ingrebourne, turn right into Bridge Avenue towards the Sports Stadium.

• 

  Step 5: After a row of bungalows on the right, turn right through the Stadium gates opposite the end of Brookdale Avenue.

• 

  Step 6: Follow the track left past the car park, through a barrier and up a short slope.
