Step 1: Begin your walk at Strines railway station on the Manchester-Sheffield line. Buses to and from Stockport run from Strines Road nearby.
Step 2: From summer 2024, Strines station may be closed. Check the National Rail website for details. If necessary, start the walk from Strines Road, taking a rail replacement bus from Marple or Manchester or a regular bus from Stockport.
Step 3: Please note that parts of this walk may be damp, muddy and slippery at any time of year and especially after periods of wet weather. Please bear this in mind when planning your trip.
Step 4: Leave the platform served by trains from Manchester via the gate and head right, towards the restricted byway.
Step 5: Turn right again to begin your journey up the restricted byway. Be careful as cyclists also use this route. The path is cobbled and uneven.
Step 6: Follow the path uphill. Through the trees, you can enjoy gorgeous views of the Goyt Valley to your right.
