Step 1: Right at the edge of the Peak District & Cheshire is Lyme Park. This glorious house was once home to the Legh family.
Step 2: Lyme is now managed by the National Trust and was used as a location for the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, starring Colin Firth, who famously took a dip in the lake! There are 1400 acres of parkland to explore here.
Step 3: For a good, long walk, head up the path towards the old stable building, and follow it around the the left.
Step 4: From the 17th century, the Legh family planted avenues of sycamore and lime trees throughout the park, they are beautiful.
Step 5: Keep following the path into the deer park.
Step 6: The tower you can see on the hill is The Cage - it’s the old hunting lodge. Thankfully now the park is a safe sanctuary for deer.
