Step 1: This is a varied 9 mile walk with some gradual ups and downs through woods, parkland along rivers. Waymarking and signposting are generally good.
Step 2: Refer to the Inner London Ramblers web site to find out how to avoid two high bridges with steep steps near the end of the walk.
Step 3: Leave Cockfosters Station by the stairs to Cockfosters Road. Turn right out the station then immediately right into the car park.
Step 4: Head at once to the left of the car park to find the start of the path through a metal gate into the trees by a Loop sign.
Step 5: The path runs between fences with the car park on the right and a cemetery on the left. Keep ahead.
Step 6: Keep ahead, crossing the drive leading to the cemetery extension on the right. The start of the walk can be slippery with mud if wet.
