• Step 1: This is one of a series of mud-free walks that are of medium length and largely off - road. They are suitable for winter days when the weather has been wet. The walks have good public transport links.

• 

  Step 2: Leave the railway behind you as you walk from Hackney Wick station. Walk ahead to a T-junction and turn left.

• 

  Step 3: Walk up the road (White Post Lane) towards a bridge over the canal.

• 

  Step 4: Turn right just before you cross the bridge to walk down a ramp with the Lee Navigation on your left.

• 

  Step 5: Follow the path round to the right as it becomes the towpath of the Hertford Union Canal. You now stay on the towpath for about 1 mile.

• 

  Step 6: Keep along the towpath with the canal on your left. Walk on past the bottom lock.
