• Step 1: This is one of a series of mud-free walks that are of medium length and largely off-road. They are suitable for winter days when the weather has been wet. The walks have good public transport links.

• 

  Step 2: Turn left out of Gospel Oak station and walk under two railway bridges.

• 

  Step 3: Just after the second bridge, turn left to walk ahead to the right of the car park.

• 

  Step 4: Keep on past a barrier passing the lido on your left.

• 

  Step 5: As Hampstead Heath opens up ahead, keep on along the path by the hedge.

• 

  Step 6: At the end of the path, fork right and then bear right passing the band stand.
