Step 1: This walking route was created by Tranquil City London and the London Car Free Day campaign. It’s one of the busiest commuting zones in London but at the weekend you can enjoy relative peace and quiet.
Step 2: This area of the City of London is known as The Square Mile and from a heritage and architectural perspective, it is globally significant. It is also heavily polluted during the week. Weekends provide a respite from this.
Step 3: This walk attempts to imagine and fantasise about what a pedestrianised city could look, feel and smell like. How less stressed would you feel? How much healthier might you feel? Will it still feel vibrant, exciting and enticing?
Step 4: Start at the statue of the man on the horse at the Royal Exchange.
Step 5: Follow along Threadneedle St, the iconic NatWest building is ahead.
