Step 1: Welcome to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Our walk starts at the front reception. Adult tickets are £7.50 and children tickets are £5.25.
Step 2: The botanical gardens were designed and laid out by John Claudius Loudon, a well-regarded landscape gardener and horticulturalist, in 1832. This route will show you a lovely walk around the 15 acre Victorian gardens.
Step 3: While we won’t tell you about all the plants along the way, you’ll see lots of signs and information stations to help you learn about what you’re seeing.
Step 4: Start by heading into the Tropical House.
Step 5: Here, the hot humid atmosphere most nearly simulates the conditions of the lowland equatorial regions of the tropics and the species grown represent the great variety of life forms which are characteristic of these habitats.
Step 6: Next, let’s explore the sub-tropical house. The high roof accommodates palms, tree ferns and a giant bird-of-paradise plant.
