  • Welcome to Summerfield Park. Our walk starts off Dudley Road, near the Icknield Port Road, at the brick gate.

    Step 1: Welcome to Summerfield Park. Our walk starts off Dudley Road, near the Icknield Port Road, at the brick gate.

  • Step 2: The park opened in 1876 by the then Mayor of Birmingham, Joseph Chamberlain. Today, it’s a lovely green oasis in west Birmingham.

  • After passing the brick gate, turn right to follow the paved path. We’ll be walking around the edge of the park.

  • On your left, you’ll see a lovely painted “Big Hoot” owl.

  • Step 5: In the summer of 2015, 211 of these owls were painted and displayed throughout Birmingham to raise funds for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. After 10 weeks, they were auctioned off and raised £530,830.
