Step 1: This is the first leg of the Wandle Trail, following the River Wandle in South London. The walk begins at the East Croydon railway station.
Step 2: This route explores the Wandle Valley, its namesake river, over 40 green spaces and 12 nature reserves! There’s plenty of cultural heritage along the way, too. Please note some parts of the Wandle Trail can be quiet and isolated.
Step 3: Start by walking down George Street with the tram tracks to your left.
Step 4: Look out for the pavement monsters on your way! 😱👻🤪
Step 5: And any public art or murals you see, too!
Step 6: On the corner is a plaque dedicated to John Whitgift, the Archbishop of Canterbury in 1596. More than 400 years later, a charity in his name continues to support access to education and community services for people in Croydon.
