• Step 1: One of two Colchester Borough Council ‘easy access trails’ connecting with the Colchester Orbital - a 14-15 mile walk around town, linking some of its most important & beautiful green spaces.

• 

  Step 2: The trail, which begins at the Sussex Road entrance to Hilly Fields, is level & barrier-free.

• Step 3: Many other walking routes across Hilly Fields also link outwards from this point.

• Step 4: The trail path is surfaced, level (gradient-free) & compact in dry weather. It path can be a little rough in some places.

• Step 6: This site has a rich history. There have been Iron Age & Roman remains found here. It was also an important site of Parliamentarian encampment during the Civil War siege of Colchester in 1648.
