Step 1: Welcome to our foodie tour of Southampton. We’re going to share some of the top spots in the city. It’s packed full of food & history.
Step 2: Bargate is easily accessible by public transport & a good meeting spot if you plan to do this tour with others. Buses stop at nearby West Quay & Houndwell Park. Or you can walk from Southampton Central train station in 15 minutes.
Step 3: The first stop on this tour will be Shanghai 1814. This is a contemporary Chinese restaurant offering artfully beautiful foods.
Step 4: The restaurant is housed in a listed period building, which was built back in the 1900’s. It’s typical of Neo-Baroque style with its ornamented columns & arches.
Step 5: For a short detour take a right down Castle Lane.
Step 6: You’ll then reach the Juniper Berry pub. It’s built on the location of Jane Austen’s residence whilst she lived in Southampton.
