Step 1: I started this walk outside the Oval tube station with The Oval cricket ground, home to Surrey County Cricket Club in the background.
Step 2: As you cross the road you pass the St Marks Church on your right.
Step 3: Cross the road to an central island that includes the Kennington Monument.
Step 4: After you cross the road again, you come to the entrance to Kennington Park, formerly Kennington Common.
Step 5: The park was once the starting point of many a protest march and the site of a key meeting in 1848 of the Chartists. Despite fears that the 50,000 would spark a revolution, the event passed peacefully
Step 6: As you enter the park turn left. Previously the land was an execution site for captured Jacobites from the 1745 rebellion.
