• Step 1: A varied 4.5 mile walk through woodland, fields and into a river valley. The final approach to Chigwell is on busy roads. There are plenty of encouraging waymarks but some are missing at key points.

• 

  Step 2: Turn right from Chingford Station along Station Road past the bus station.

• 

  Step 3: Cross the end of Beresford Road, then cross left over Rangers Road into Bury Road opposite - as shown by the Loop signs on the lamppost.

• 

  Step 4: Just before the golf club house, turn right onto an earth/gravel track.

• 

  Step 5: Where the track ends and the path goes left, turn sharp right up the grass to pass between trees. (Not the broader grass track ahead.)

• 

  Step 6: Pass the Hunting Lodge on the right and follow the path round to the drinking fountain. Cross the road ahead.
