Step 1: Begin your walk at Castleton Visitor Centre. Here you will find a car park, museum, picnic area & loos. Follow the stream to the road.
Step 2: Turn left on Cross Street, passing Town Ditch Field.
Step 3: On Cross Street you will find lots of lovely tea rooms & pubs, as well as gift shops selling Blue John Stone & other treasures.
Step 4: Castleton is the home of Blue John, a semi-precious mineral you can’t find anywhere else in the world. It’s a form of fluorite with bands of purple, blue & yellow. Often made into jewellery, each piece is completely unique!
Step 5: Find a narrow passageway between two shops, leading into the churchyard.
Step 6: St Edmund’s dates from the 12th Century. It plays host to the finale of the annual Garland Day, which takes place on 29th May.
