  Step 1: Welcome to Pencaitland! Today we’ll walk a lovely loop around town, starting at the Mercat Cross opposite Spar.

• 

  Step 2: When you’re ready, cross the road using the crossing signal, and turn right on the other side.

• 

  Step 3: This first stretch follows the pavement, but please use care when crossing side roads.

• 

  Step 4: On your left is a small patch of trees. We’ll come back that way at the end of our walk. For now, continue straight on.

• 

  Step 5: The pavement can be narrow in places, so be sure to walk single file and proceed carefully.

• 

  Step 6: Across the street is the churchyard of the Pencaitland Church. Feel free to pop in and have a wander before we continue on.
