Step 1: This walk starts in the waterside Castle Park. You can find castle ruins, refreshments and this lovely Physic Garden by the church ruins.
Step 2: Public transport to Castle Park includes the Castle Park Landing ferry stop. The bus stops of Wine Street & Broad Weir are served by numerous buses including those to Keynsham, Cribbs Causeway, Horsefair, Whitchurch & Broom Hill.
Step 3: With your back to the water, head towards the main road of Newgate, named after the New Gate which once controlled access to the castle.
Step 4: Cross Newgate at the lights, which have the pride flag colours painted onto the road.
Step 5: Head across Union Street towards the shopping mall, The Galleries. There are free public loos, including baby change, inside.
Step 6: This corner of the mall stands on the site of the former Newgate prison which mainly operated in the 17th and 18th centuries.
