Step 1: Welcome to the Green Circle! This is walk 1 of 5 anti-clockwise segments. We’ll start at the shop opposite Barley Lane on Dunsford Road.
Step 2: The Exeter Green Circle is a twelve-mile walk that provides a great walking experience within the boundaries of Exeter – from green countryside valley parks to the pavements of quiet leafy suburbs.
Step 3: This first segment of the Green Circle follows the valley of the Alphin Brook. The upper section of the brook flows through rich agricultural land separated from the city by a ridge of hills.
Step 4: As it reaches the Exe Valley, the brook is tamed in a modern channel to prevent it flooding the old village of Alphington and its modern neighbour the industrial estate of Marsh Barton.
Step 5: Ready? Let’s head out!
Step 6: Around the side of the building, can you find Little John’s Cross, a granite boundary stone from the 15th century?
