  Step 1: Welcome to the Thames Path! This walk follows the South Bank of the iconic Thames Path National Trail, from the Thames Barrier to Crossness Incinerator.

• 

  Step 2: This route doesn’t go all the way to Dover, but in this segment you’ll follow the river all the way around Thamesmead.

• 

  Step 3: Here, the walking and cycling paths separate. Take the ramp down to the lower path.

• 

  Step 4: To your left is a superb view of the towers operating the drop-gate flood barrier guarding the mouth of Barking Creek.

• 

  Step 5: You’ll pass on your right a wartime Pill Box, trained on Barking Creek.

• 

  Step 6: The path continues along the river.
