  Step 1: Leave Shirehampton railway station via the tarmac path to Station Road. Turn left and follow the road under railway bridge.

• Step 2: If you choose to arrive via bus not train, buses 3 & 4 stop nearby.

• 

  Step 3: At the Lamplighters Inn turn left and go through gap next to gate into the playing field.

• 

  Step 4: Information posts here tell the history of Pill across the Avon. Follow grass path between children's playground and the river.

• 

  Step 5: Keep ahead as the path enters a narrow stretch between the riverbank and a fence. Note the old beacon to guide ships on the opposite bank.

• 

  Step 6: The path now enters a long open grassy space, keep ahead on the riverside edge of the field.
