  Step 1: Your walk begins at Newcut. The closest bus stops are along the Highway Road. Just one road from here. Follow the public footpath sign.

• Step 2: We recommend using public transport or walking to this jaunt where possible. But if you need to drive, there is free parking along New Cut.

• 

  Step 3: Turn left onto The Heath.

• 

  Step 4: Follow the dirt track towards the Roman River Valley Nature Reserve. This is managed by The Essex Wildlife Trust.

• 

  Step 5: The nature reserve is part of the Roman River Valley Conservation Zone. It’s a fragment of the traditional river valley landscape.

• 

  Step 6: Continue following the path as it veers right. The path may be very muddy, so you may want to walk through the trees to avoid the mud.
