   Step 1: This walk starts at Hartley’s Cafe, West Lodge, Lendal Bridge, York YO1 7DP. Facing away from this cafe, head to the river front.

   Step 2: Don’t miss the notable feature of this Aviva building. Do you like how it attempts to integrate with the character of the rest of the city?

   Step 3: Enter the river walkway through here.

4. 

   Step 4: It is largely peaceful here with shade from trees and lots of benches to eat your lunch. When ready, continue ahead.

5. Step 5: Did you know that the River Ouse flows through the city and then Selby and Goole before conjoining with the River Trent at Trent Falls to form the Humber Estuary. The Romans took full advantage of the Ouse…

6. Step 6: …and made York, or Eboracum, as the Romans used to call it, the preferred trading centre in the north of England. Why not stop to admire the river before continuing ahead into North Street Gardens?
