  • Welcome to Paxton Pits Nature Reserve! A 77 hectare area of lakes, meadows, grassland, next to the River Great Ouse.

  • Step 2: It’s open to visitors at all times. The Visitors Centre & toilets are wheelchair accessible & open from 11-3 (Sat-Thurs. There are also nappy changing facilities & picnic benches too. Snacks & drinks can also be purchased onsite.

  • There are a few trails to follow around the nature reserve. Namely the Heron, Meadow & River Trails.

  • Step 4: This walk takes in both The Heron Trail & The Meadow Trail. The full route is a figure of eight, stopping at the Visitors’ Centre halfway through. Complete the whole route or pick & choose between the trails.

  • Step 5: The Heron Trail is a hard surfaced track, suitable for wheelchairs & pushchairs. Most manual wheelchairs & buggies can use the kissing gate, but those with larger wheelchairs can gain access using the RADAR key.

  • Step 6: The Meadow Trail is made up of unsurfaced paths, plus steps & a squeeze gate which is due to be replaced with a ramp suitable for wheelchairs.
