• 

  Step 1: From the car park near the accessible spaces, follow the pavement out towards the road (Monton Green).

• 

  Step 2: Pass through the barrier or stay on the road next to it, taking care of traffic.

• 

  Step 3: With Monton Medical Centre opposite, turn right on the pavement. Continue across the drive way, ignoring the signed path for Worsley.

• 

  Step 4: After crossing the canal, continue past the blue fingerpost (or turn right here down the slope).

• 

  Step 5: Take the next right - a broad path signposted as the Bridgewater Way.

• 

  Step 6: Turn left along the smooth, hard-surfaced towpath. The Bridgewater was Britain's 1st canal not to follow the course of an existing river.
