Step 1: Welcome! This walk is going to take you on a little tour from Leiston Library to Leiston Abbey.
Step 2: Main Street is a great start point as it’s where buses to & from Saxmundham, Ipswich & Halesworth stop. There is also parking nearby if you do have to drive to the town.
Step 3: Note that on the opposite side of the road is The Long Shop Museum (seasonal opening hours apply).
Step 4: This once was Leiston Works, which opened from 1778 to 1932. The Long Shop is an early example of a building which was designed for assembly-line production. It’s grade II listed, as well as the water tower too.
Step 5: On the wall of the library is a memorial to those who lost their lives in the two world wars
Step 6: On the corner of the building there will be a metal plaque dedicated to those in the US Air Force 8th Fighter Command who lost their lives.
