Step 1: This walk starts in Hanwell, accessible via the Elizabeth line, Piccadilly line via Boston Manor, & buses from Ealing or Brentford. We got the E8 bus via Brentford, caught opposite the train station or on the high street.
Step 2: We got off the bus at the Lower Boston Rd Stop and walked a little further to Green Lane. This primary school is on the corner.
Step 3: Turn onto Green Lane. Walk to the end, past The Fox pub. You’ll arrive at the junction where the Brent River joins the Grand Union Canal.
Step 4: Walk onto the canal tow path, taking a left turn towards Brentford. This is signposted here. Right is the flight of locks (an earlier walk).
Step 5: There are many swans, ducks, coots and moorhens on this stretch. It’s also home to many residential moorings and park areas.
Step 6: There are a few of these cast iron signs on the route, a remnant of the canal’s industrial origins. Braunston is the start of the GU canal.
