Step 1: Visit safely – The Discovery Trail includes some slopes, muddy paths and steps. Start at the Reception in the East Lodge. There is cycle parking round behind as well as by the cafe.
Step 2: For generations, cemetery staff lived with their families in the Lodges on site.
Step 3: While no one lives in the Lodges anymore, the tunnels underground make a comfortable home for roosting bats.
Step 4: Facing the cemetery turn right and follow the path.
Step 5: Lost but not forgotten. Arnos Vale is the last resting place of more than 530 servicemen and women who lost their lives during WW1 and WW2
Step 6: and other conflicts. The 239 men buried in ‘Soldiers and Sailors Corners’ (See point 16) are casualties who came from the UK Ireland and the commonwealth. Turn around back down the hill and take path on the right to step 6.
