Step 1: This walk starts at the Roman Vindolanda near Hexham NE47 7JN. We highly recommend visiting the site either before or after your walk. Entrance fees start from £16 for an adult. Cafe & toilets on site. The museum is ace!
Step 2: Public transport is limited here but the nearest train station is, Bardon Mill which is served by Northern trains. If starting at the station, start the walk around Step 30. Otherwise use one of the Vindalando car parks.
Step 3: For a bit of background, Vindolanda was a former Roman auxiliary fort. It is south of Hadrian's Wall which it also pre-dates. Archaeological excavations at the site show it was under Roman occupation from roughly 85 AD to 370 AD.
