Step 1: Welcome to the North Berwick Law! This scramble climb starts at the North Berwick Law Car Park. It’s quite steep but family-friendly for confident +5yo’s and a lot of fun. Sturdy shoes needed!
Step 2: The picnic area in the car park is a good chance to take a quick break before your summit climb. There are bike racks too.
Step 3: The Law (the Scottish word for a rounded hill) is what’s known as a ‘volcanic plug.’ This is the hardened remains of lava that never quite made it out of a massive ancient volcano, 340 million years ago, that once stood here.
Step 4: When you’re ready, let’s go! Head to the far end of the car park towards the narrow gap in the stone wall.
Step 5: Go through the gate and turn right, following the signs to the summit.
Step 6: We’ll note that there are so many different tracks and paths to the top. The waymarking is not always clear. We’ll show you one way up now, but feel free to pop your phone away and head your own way to the top.
