Step 1: Welcome to this family-friendly day out in the New Forest! On today's adventure, we'll start in Brockenhurst, take the train to Beaulieu Road, and then walk back to Brockenhurst.
Step 2: We should note part of the route is on road, without a footpath and care should be taken. If you have a dog, you'll need a lead. This is a natural environment, and you may encounter obstacles, such as fallen trees or mud.
Step 3: Starting at Brockenhurst, you need a single ticket to the next stop towards London, Beaulieu Road. There are usually half a dozen trains a day that stop here. The journey takes around seven minutes.
Step 4: From the start, trains detoured around Lyndhurst, where villagers feared disruption from the railway. This meant it had to cross Lord Montagu’s land. He demanded his own station as recompense.
Step 5: That station is Beaulieu Road, isolated in the middle of heathland. It was originally only used by Lord Montagu and his staff. The staff lived in the cottages you can see at the station.
Step 6: From the platform, head up the steps towards the Lyndhurst to Beaulieu Road.
