  Step 1: Your walk starts at Prestonpans Station, which has been serving the East Coast since 1846.

• 

  Step 2: The line has a 15-minute service to Scotland’s capital city, as well as links east to North Berwick and beyond.

• 

  Step 3: Leaving the car park, turn left and then first left again on Johnnie Cope’s Road.

• 

  Step 4: Head round behind the station, and under the tracks.

• 

  Step 5: Back in line with the station steps you will see a footpath signed to the 1745 Battlefield Viewpoint and Monuments.

• 

  Step 6: On your right you will pass the Colonel Gardiner Monument, in front of Bankton House.
