• Step 1: There is a steady climb through suburban roads at the start but then easy walking. Great when the lavender is in flower. There are more stiles than usual. Waymarking is generally good.

• 

  Step 2: Leave Coulsdon South Station from platform 1. Go down the steps, over the crossing and then right under the two bridges.

• 

  Step 3: Go over Cane Hill Drive. Stay on the left hand pavement to fork left on Lion Green Road just after some traffic lights.

• 

  Step 4: Continue along the road passing blocks of flats and a car park.

• 

  Step 5: If you have a particular interest in railway history, divert left up steps when you reach Red Clover Gardens.

• 

  Step 6: Continue to the back of the development curving left, then right past a playground.
