  Step 1: Start at Marmalade cafe. Optional: grab a coffee to fuel your walk.

  Step 4: Coal hole row! Sussex Square is one of the few places in the UK where coal holes still exist.

  Step 5: Coal holes are located in front of the terraced houses, and would lead directly into vaulted cellars beneath the pavement…

  Step 6: This stopped dirty coal from bringing carried through Victorian houses as it could be deposited directly into the cellar…
