  • Derwent Wood is perhaps best known for his statue of the Boy David at Hyde Park Corner.

  • Step 5: A half size maquette of that statue, which is a memorial to the members of the Machine Gun Corps, used to be situated in Chelsea Embankment Gardens.

  • Wood’s statue was stolen in 1969 and replaced in 1971 with a version by Edward Bainbridge Copnall (1903-1973).
