Step 1: Begin your walk on Chelsea Embankment, opposite Cadogan Pier and looking towards Albert Bridge.
Step 2: This walk is curated by Geoffrey Matthews of The Chelsea Arts Club. You’ll be taken through the heart of Chelsea visiting a few of the plaques and statues associated with the thousands of artists who have lived and worked here.
Step 3: Look for a sculpture on the right hand side of the road, amongst the trees.
Step 4: Derwent Wood is perhaps best known for his statue of the Boy David at Hyde Park Corner.
Step 5: A half size maquette of that statue, which is a memorial to the members of the Machine Gun Corps, used to be situated in Chelsea Embankment Gardens.
Step 6: Wood’s statue was stolen in 1969 and replaced in 1971 with a version by Edward Bainbridge Copnall (1903-1973).
