Step 1: Start at the south end of Granby Street, not far from Leicester Railway Station on London Road.

Step 3: Granby Street is one of the primary high streets of Leicester, the main route from the train station to the city centre. From 1901 to 1949 electric trams ran along Granby St towards the Clock Tower and up London Rd towards Stoneygate.
Step 4: At the corner of East Street and Granby Street, look up at the attractive YMCA building.
Step 5: The YMCA organisation was founded in London in 1844 to improve the living conditions for young working men, many of whom lived on the street
Step 6: The YMCA building was built in 1900-1901, designed by archict Alderman Albert Sawday, president of the Leicester YMCA. He later became Mayor of Leicester in 1903. It is believed to feature the oldest surviving theatre in the city.
