Step 1: The route starts at Middlewood station, with trains from Manchester & Stockport. Buses also run to High Lane, 0.5 miles/0.8 km to the north.
Step 2: Please note that parts of this walk may be damp, muddy and slippery at any time of year and especially after periods of wet weather. Please bear this in mind when planning your trip.
Step 3: Please check on the National Trust website that Lyme Park is open before starting the walk & note the diversion described in steps 17 & 18. This will be in place from several months from April 2024 and is due to Network Rail crossing works.
Step 4: Use the steps from either platform to exit the station onto the walkway above.
Step 5: If you've come from Manchester or Stockport, turn left when you reach the path. If you've come from the Buxton direction, turn right.
Step 6: The wide and level path is called the Middlewood Way. It used to be a train line.
