Step 1: Start out facing east on Princes Street and head down the road towards the Nelson Monument that marks the top of Calton Hill
Step 2: The upturned telescope designed by architect Robert Burn was built between 1807 and 1815 in honour of Admiral Lord Nelson
Step 3: Take a left off the A1 up the small flight of steps. A more accessible route can be found by taking the first exit at the next roundabout
Step 4: After the first flight take the first right and take the longer flight of stairs up to Calton Hill
Step 5: The Nelson monument starts to come into view as you make your way through the trees...
Step 6: The top of Calton Hill is also home to the Dugald Stewart Monument, a famous Scottish philosopher, designed by William Henry Playfair
