Step 1: This short walk starts at The Bay Horse Rise Inn in Ravensworth.
Step 2: There is a bus stop at the Village Green which is about 20metres from the pub along Stoneygate Bank. Facing away from the pub, turn right to walk along the green.
Step 3: You can find benches all along this green.
Step 4: Carry on along the green, looking out for the ruins of Ravensworth Castle which was built by Henry, 1st Baron FitzHugh, in the late 14th century. The castle was dismantled in the 16th century for other buildings nearby.
Step 5: You can only look afar unfortunately as it’s on private land. It has been designated a Grade I listed building by English Heritage
Step 6: You can see the square gatehouse and some remaining walls. When you’re ready, cross over the main road and head up the side road just opposite.
