Step 1: Welcome to the Northern Slopes. Today, we’ll show you a short loop around the Glyn Vale park. Start at the entrance off Wedmore Vale Rd.
Step 2: This area is accessible by bus, with the No 90 route to and from Hengrove Park and City Centre stopping just around the corner. This walk would also be great for a lunchtime walk or to get the heart pumping a little.
Step 3: In 2015, parts of The Slopes were designated one of Bristol’s 12 Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) – special, protected places where wildlife can thrive and people can relax with nature and enjoy fantastic views.
Step 4: Let’s start by heading into the park. Walk straight past the staircase, then veer right at this junction.
Step 5: After World War I (1914-1918), much of the area was transformed into housing. The Slopes became allotments during World War II (1939-1945).
Step 6: Having remained relatively undisturbed in the years since then, the Slopes now provide a green oasis for nature and recreation for local residents.
