• Step 1: Section 16 is the longest section of the Loop so we have split it into two parts with the break about two thirds of the way at High Barnet. There are now plenty of reassuring signposts and waymarks.

• Step 2: Part A is a varied and enjoyable 7 mile walk with ups and downs. Walking is generally easy but some paths are muddy after wet weather. This version of the walk takes advantage of two alternative routes.

• Step 3: The alternative routes greatly cut down on the walking beside noisy roads while not increasing the distance. See the Inner London Ramblers web site for details of the ‘official’ route.

• 

  Step 4: Veer slightly right past bus stop A on leaving Elstree & Borehamwood station. Turn right down Station Road.

• 

  Step 5: Walk along station road. Bear slightly right, then left after a while to continue in the same direction.

• 

  Step 6: Keep ahead through bollards into a residential street (Coleridge Way).
