Step 1: Howth village is an old fishing port and now affluent suburb of Dublin, very popular in summer. Parking and nearby DART train station
Step 2: The peninsula is only connected to the mainland via a narrow piece of land. Howth is pronounced to rhyme with "both" not "mouth"
Step 3: There are plenty of restaurants, pubs and cafes here before setting off on the walk
Step 4: Start walking east past the marina
Step 5: Continue east around the cliff road. There is a Martello tower on a cliff top just as you are leaving the port area
Step 6: You can see Ireland's eye from the road - a now uninhabited island a little way from Howth port
