Step 1: Nearest train station is Chichester which is also served by multiple bus routes. This walk starts off East Street.
Step 2: Half way up East Street you reach the lovely pedestrianised area of Chichester city centre. How blissful it is when traffic-free.
Step 3: Carry on ahead, nipping in shops as you wish and make your way towards the large clock.
Step 4: This large ornate building is known as the Chichester Cross. It stands at the intersection of four principle streets and is Grade 1 listed.
Step 5: According to the inscription upon it, this cross was built by Edward Story, Bishop of Chichester from 1477 to 1503. It was allegedly built as a meeting place and to give shelter to poor market sellers.
Step 6: Continue ahead past the Market Cross as East street turns into West street. By the way.... did you know that these two main cross roads were laid out by the Romans? Make your way towards the cathedral.
