• Step 1: ⚠️During winter 2024-25, please start your Stage 18 walk from step 57 (Warburton village), served from Altrincham or Sale by the Cat5 bus. This is due to works on the Warburton Toll Bridge. Parts of this stage may also be very damp.⚠️

• 

  Step 2: This walk starts at Irlam train station which has connections to from. Manchester. The friendly cafe (with toilets) is well worth a visit.

• Step 3: Please note that parts of this walk may be damp, muddy and slippery at any time of year and especially after periods of wet weather. Please bear this in mind when planning your trip.

• 

  Step 4: There are steps down to well-signposted exits from the station. Take the southern, Liverpool Road exit (the opposite side from the cafe).

• 

  Step 5: Upon exiting the station, take the wide tarmac path to the right.

• 

  Step 6: Continue onto Liverpool Road, using the pavement.
