A small circular walk starting at Horden Beach and along part of the Durham Heritage Coast. Do it in reverse to avoid the steep staircase.

Step 1: Walk down from Cotsford Lane where there’s parking and you’re straight on to the beach. Take a left for this walk.
Step 2: Walk along the coast for 15 or so minutes
Step 3: From Durham Heritage Coast: Horden was a mining village until the closure of Horden Colliery in 1987. Like other parts of the Durham Coast, colliery waste was tipped out to sea.
Step 4: The area has now been reclaimed and the black spoil that blighted the area has been transformed into stunning coastal grasslands. The cliff faces are now an important habitat for the Northern Brown Argus butterfly.
Step 5: You can normally see the ships waiting to dock at Hartlepool further down the coast
