Step 1: This walk starts outside the café next to Bungay Castle.

Step 2: Inside the cafe there is an honesty box for donations towards its upkeep. The Castle is currently closed to the public for maintenance.
Step 3: The square Norman keep was built here in 1165 by Lord Hugh Bigod, which was later rebuilt in 1394.

Step 4: Outside the cafe, turn left down an alleyway towards Butter Cross market place.

Step 5: The Butter Cross is the centre of town, which is surrounded by shops, cafes & a weekly market each Thursday.
Step 6: The Buttercross was rebuilt after the Great Fire of Bungay in 1688. A weekly market has been held on this site since 1382!
